Top Analyst Condemns Nonsense XRP Moonshot Calls. Here’s why

A post from crypto analyst ChartNerd (@ChartNerdTA) set off a debate in the XRP community after he misread a reply from Pumpius (@pumpius), another well-known figure in the community. The mix-up was quick, and ChartNerd acknowledged it. The underlying concern he raised, though, is one the XRP community keeps returning to. I can agree this is indeed the time to double down on $XRP , but it is also time to ignore the nonsense moonshot calls and come to your senses. These figures have been a recurring story for 5 years. Stop the farming. It's damaging for the community. https://t.co/4kBgHlG8md — ChartNerd (@ChartNerdTA) July 18, 2026 The Cause of the Confusion Pumpius had posted that it was time to double down on XRP, followed by the figures “$500,000 – $1,000,000.” ChartNerd read those numbers as a price target. He replied that while he agreed it was time to double down on XRP, it was also time to “ignore the nonsense moonshot calls and come to your senses.” He added that these figures have reoccurred for years and called it farming that was damaging to the community. Pumpius pushed back, asking how investing $500,000 – $1 million of his capital could damage the community. ChartNerd responded quickly, apologizing for misreading the post. He noted that he had frequently seen Pumpius put out very high numbers, and he assumed those were targets. Why the Mistake Was Easy to Make ChartNerd’s confusion did not come from nowhere. The screenshots attached to his apology showed prior posts from Pumpius predicting $10,000 XRP and $1,000 XLM, along with other posts. These are the kinds of posts ChartNerd had grown accustomed to seeing from figures in the space, which is why the large dollar figures immediately read as price targets. The pattern ChartNerd described is well-known. The XRP community has a documented history of extreme price predictions that circulate with high conviction and little accountability. Claver told his audience he was confident XRP would make an unbelievable move before the end of 2025. The asset closed the year below $2, failing to reach any of his targets. Fellow analyst Zach Rector publicly criticized Claver , arguing the issue was not the missed call itself but the certainty used to sell it. The dispute escalated into a $30 million federal defamation lawsuit filed by Claver in January 2026. Claver has since issued a $750 XRP price target for the end of 2026 . ChartNerd admitted his error, but the question is more persistent. Extreme price predictions with high-certainty framing have become a fixture in XRP spaces, and the community continues to debate their cost.
